"You're smiling today."

You know those cheesy movie moments that you think would ever happen in real life? The ones where everything is okay and it means one of two things 1) that things are starting to look up and there will never be a thing wrong again, or 2) that everything is about to go to hell. I experienced one of those moments firsthand today.

Today started as a relatively normal day all things considered. I walked into work, dreading the next 8 hours as usual. But then somebody asked me what seemed like a pretty innocent question:

"Did you get a hair cut?"

I hadn't. Not recently anyway. And I told him so. And the conversation was over.

But then later, another friend said that I looked different today.

"You've worn that shirt before, you wear those jeans all the time and I've definitely seen those shoes before... but something's different."

After some discussion, the two came to a conclusion about what was different.

"You're smiling today."

Until then I don't think I realized how much I'd been letting things get to me. It was changing the way I looked, enough that people noticed.
